Office building Viñoly Mahler 4 is one of the buildings in the Mahler 4 complex in the Zuidas business district of Amsterdam. Viñoly Mahler 4 is designed by Rafael Viñoly with executive architects Van den Oever, Zaaier & Partners.
The 24-storey high Viñoly Mahler 4 is one of the highest buildings in Amsterdam. Architects were looking for a way to break with traditional forms of urban planning. The aim was to reach a rich urban environment that would blend in with the historic city. That is why they chose for a L-shaped, layered structure with strong vertical lines, instead of a traditional creation of basic-center-top. The layering refers to the different layers of a city.
